Stadia

Traditional security measures are no match for unmanned aerial systems. Ground level security risks are well documented and known. Therefore, nefarious actors are now taking to the sky to continue with their operations. Drones can quietly enter stadiums at any moment without disrupting activities, prompting many stadium risk holders to wonder if they even have a drone problem. A drone may be nothing more than a nuisance or a spying menace when a stadium is not in use. However, when a stadium is a full operation, a single drone can cause enormous disruption and danger. The burden has now been placed on security managers who are responsible for the protection of thousands of people to deliver C-UAS strategies. Shield understands these risks and challenges that many Stadium managers now face. Our combined 80 plus years of securing airspace in some of the most challenging parts of the world mean we can support those who have no experience in this area. Securing airspace takes a change of security mindset and our consultants are there to support you every step of the way.

Airports

Drones have already attracted millions of new aviators through photography, racing, and other leisure activities. This is on the back of professional remote pilots constantly discovering new uses for these aircraft. However, with this new aviation technology comes the necessity to safeguard key infrastructure from its exploitation. Airports must be prepared to respond to the presence of unlicensed drones that could jeopardise safety, efficiency, or capacity. Unmanned platforms can provide a perfect platform for surveillance, disruption and delivery of payloads in the hands of a careless remote operator or a criminal actor. Drones also offer a significant risk of colliding with manned aircraft. In any case, the safety and security issues around unlicensed drones must be addressed. Shield is perfectly positioned to support airport operators as our consultants are able to bring current operational experience to your organisation. Our team has been working in the Middle East delivering C-UAS support and mitigation to very active airfields suffering from relentless UAS incursions. Therefore, we have learnt first-hand how to secure your airspace. We have also seen first-hand what the current suit of C-UAS capabilities can and cannot achieve. This allows us to be truly systems agnostic and only ever select capabilities aligned to your requirements.

National Infrastructure

Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) are starting to show their potential in society. They are being deployed by a diverse range of sectors and government services. Real world examples include the emergency services, to deal with everything from critical incident management to missing persons. They're also utilised by individuals in charge of inspecting and maintaining buildings and infrastructure, and they can lower the risk of employees working in dangerous places while also driving more efficient work methods. However, operators must be aware of the restrictions about flying UAS in an unsafe or disruptive manner. Other actors could exploit UAS for nefarious purposes. The events at Gatwick Airport in December 2018 revealed the considerable disruption they may cause, and subsequent global events have demonstrated how criminal actors can exploit them. It is also critical to begin preparing and planning to identify the dangers that UAS represent to your site or organisation, and to implement suitable and effective risk mitigation measures where necessary, such as at national infrastructure sites, sensitive areas, busy places, and large events. At Shield we understand that UAS and C-UAS risk assessment and mitigation is a fast-evolving domain and some will have little to no knowledge. Shield is there to support all types of organisations. We have secured airspace all over the globe in a huge variety of locations including large, critical infrastructure. Speak to us today to begin your C-UAS journey.

Prisons

For security providers at Prisons, contraband is one of the most persistent and long-standing threats to prison security.
Smuggling narcotics, mobile phones, and other illegal objects into prisons is not a new problem, but criminals have always sought more sophisticated means. Drone technology, for example, has made a substantial contribution to the problem while simultaneously posing severe security dangers to jails. Therefore, as with all emerging technologies, those in charge of securing infrastructure, must evolve their risk mitigation. Although many would look to sell high end capabilities into prisons, Shield understands that these capabilities must be blended in with a well trained workforce and leadership team. Shield is agnostic at its core. Therefore, our mission is to leave every organisation prepared to face this rapidly emerging threat.

Short-lived large-scale events including national gatherings

At the Queen's Jubilee, drones were used to amazing effect to take the place of fireworks and put on a dazzling display. Unmanned platforms are changing the way large scale events are filmed, controlled and secured. They are also taking entertainment to the next level. However, there are some who would see drones as an opportunity to illegally film, disrupt, protest or cause harm at these events. In fact, if you look at the events of 10 June 2022 at the large music festival at Donnington Park, even those who are using drones for fun can have a hugely negative impact. East Midlands Airport had to divert flights as a precaution and cause huge disruption to passengers.
Shield understands airspace and airspace security. The company was founded to support those who need to deliver a secure pocket of air above their punter's heads. As UAS technology advances, so do the opportunities that can be exploited. If you are concerned about security issues at your event, including illegal filming, spying, flying in of contraband, drugs or weapons, then Shield’s 80 plus years of experience securing airspace is your solution.

Police and Crime Units

At Shield we are well aware that the Police have a full grounding in C-UAS. We appreciate that there are some of the most knowledgeable C-UAS SMEs within this and linked C-UAS units. However, the consultants within Shield are still able to add huge value to this sector. As an agnostic consultancy whose team have countless years of operational experience, we can and do bring a fresh mindset to UAS security issues. Our mission has always been to deliver clear, honest and practical support. Whether you are looking for workforce training, capability assessments or live operational support, our team has the breadth of experience to deliver for you.

Security Firms

So many different sectors are brilliantly manned and secured by a large number of different security businesses. However, the threat is evolving from simply gates and guards. Security firms now must also look to the sky. Airspace security is achievable through a well trained workforce and effective mitigation strategies. At Shield we have operated globally with a multitude of different people, cultures and operating styles. We are able to seamlessly align ourselves with your operational needs. From close quarter protection to large scale events, our team can deliver the solution to your airspace security needs.

Capability Developers

Working hand in glove with a well trained workforce, high end C-UAS systems are going to be key to both securing and enabling the future air picture. With drones being used for a variety of different roles, never has there been more of a need to tell friend from foe. Shield can support those developing C-UAS capabilities through, delivering operational feedback straight from live ops, support throughout the testing process to ensure the product delivers what end customers need. Our FSRs can deploy out to your area of work to support directly with the delivery of your capabilities.
